Summertime is for fun + recreation, but there’s no reason you can’t enjoy some educational activities as well. Keep your kids brains engaged with these simple ways to incorporate a little math and engineering in your summer schedule!
- Bedtime Math
Check out Bedtime Math for a 5 minute daily practice of number fun for kids and parents at home. “Read a cool fun fact, followed by math riddles at different levels so everyone can jump in. Your kids will love you for it.” - Make a Game of It
Add a numerical twist to family game night by trying this spin on Jenga or check out these new ways to use your Uno cards. Have some fun playing with your snacks by making jellybean structures, counting your goldfish or attempting to build a Pringle ring! You can find all of these ideas + more on our Summer Math Fun Pinterest board. - Sign up for a STEM-focused Camp
There are hundreds of STEM and STEAM focused activities going on this summer. Find a full list of STEM camps on Campanizer here (where you can sort by age/date/etc) including programs by CU Science Discovery, Engineering for Kids Denver, Mad Science, Dawson School, International School of Denver, and many more. - Kumon
If you’re looking for a more structured program, check out Kumon. “The Kumon Math and Reading Center is not a “tutoring” center. The center provides a pleasant learning environment where children learn from Kumon’s comprehensive math and language arts curricula. Numerous rewards are given for students’ achievements (e.g., Grandrabbit’s gift cards and visits to the treasure chest) and regular treats (e.g., juice “slushies” and hot chocolate, depending on the season) are offered as post-class incentives for their hard work.
