  • CU Wizards Present: Black Holes! – Saturday 9:30 – 10:30 – Join Professor of Astrophysical & Planetary Sciences Andrew Hamilton for a fun Saturday morning show to learn more about “Blackholes!”  How might mysterious blackholes provide inspiration and challenge to the imaginations of poets, artists, writers, and scientists?   • Boulder Library Summer of Discovery: The Dinosaur Show – Saturday 3pm – Make no bones about it – The Dinosaur Show is sure to tickle your funny bone and stimulate your imagination. Mesner Puppet Theater reaches into the past using hand, rod, shadow and body puppets to bring this prehistoric tale to life. Join paleontologist Dr. Dino Sawyer in exploring scientific theories (as well as some improbable ones) that explain what was and what might have been in the Age of the Dinosaurs.
  • 7th Annual G’Knight Ride – Saturday 3pm – Purchase Tickets Online – Come ride with us June 16th and have a ton of fun on and off bikes, celebrating all things cycling. Celebrating our 7th year in 2018, we will have Greenways back open to ride, lots of awesome vendors, activities galore, and incredible Colorado bands for our post-Ride show! The G’Knight Ride is a celebration of cycling, and is meant for cyclists of all ages, sizes, and abilities. The Ride is a great excuse to dust off that old 10-speed, mountain bike, or cruiser and hop on with 2,000+ other riders on a great evening tour. The G’Knight Ride helps to fun cycling education and bike refurbishing programs throughout the year by Bicycle Longmont, the area non-profit bike advocacy organization.
  • DMNS Harry Potter-thon – Saturday 7:30pm – Purchase Tickets Online – Your Hogwarts letter has arrived, inviting you to a Harry Potter-thon! This May and June, watch all eight Harry Potter movies in IMAX at the Museum. Follow Harry, Ron, and Hermione as they grow up amid some spectacular adventures in the wizarding world. Relive the magic or see the saga unfold for the first time, starting May 3.

Around Boulder – Weekend of June 2-3, 2018

It’s the second weekend of summer, the forecast looks lovely and there is a TON going on this weekend.

  • Whittier Garden Tour – Campanizer is proud to be sponsoring this favorite Boulder tradition – Boulder’s premier Garden Tour! Join us for the 16th annual Whittier-Mapleton Garden Tour showcasing outstanding gardens in the historic Mapleton Hill neighborhood. All proceeds to Whittier International Elementary School.   • Jeff + Paige at Longmont Museum Treehouse Exhibit Opening – Saturday 1p – 4p – The event will include: family-friendly activities, live music from Jeff & Paige, live animals and bugs and free food. Wildlife organizations will be on hand educating visitors about how they support and protect local plants and animals. Visitors can also learn about Longmont’s new sustainability plan and becoming an environmental steward yourself. Admission to the event is $8/Adults, $5/Students and Seniors and Children 3 and under, as well as Museum members, are FREE.
  • Boulder Public Library Used Book Sale – Saturday and Sunday – Library Tons of children’s books as well as adult fiction, history, self-help, art books, cookbooks, and more. Books $1 to $2. Children’s books special – two for for $1. In the Boulder Creek Meeting Room, Main Branch, Boulder Public.
  • Boulder Rural Fire Rescue Open House – Saturday 10a – 2p – Fire engines, hoses, bouncy castle, face painting, balloons, food, lemonade + more!
  • Touch A Truck at the Louisville Rec Center – Saturday 9a – 11a -Hey kids come and climb on the big trucks, ride the train, and see Dr. Howe from Young Dentistry for Children
  • Oh Gnome You Didn’t at Whitetail Park in Lafayette – Saturday and Sunday 10a – Pack a picnic and head over to Whitetail Park for “Oh Gnome You Don’t.” An unruly band of traveling clowns seeks an audience to tell their gnome-tale. In this rollicking outdoor adventure for all ages, a long-lived relationship between a gnome and his tree gets upended when a villainous, hungry mushroom pops up in the forest. Oh Gnome You Don’t is performed by Sondra Blanchard, Buba Basishvili, and Claire Patton. Admission is Pay What You Think It’s Worth after the show and no reservations are required.
  • And, since it’s the first Saturday of the month, stop by Home Depot for the free kids DIY event.

Coming Up: Whittier Garden Tour

Campanizer is proud to be sponsoring the 16th Annual Whittier Garden Tour coming up this Saturday, June 2nd. This is a fun self-guided walking tour of some of the incredible gardens in the historic Mapleton Hill neighborhood. It’s also planned to coincide with the popular Mapleton Rummage Sale, so we hope you’ll come out and enjoy a lovely Boulder day while supporting a great cause.

There’s lots of fun activities for kids, too. Stop by The Hive at 8th and Mapleton for live music, food trucks (including Sweet Cow!) and DIY flower crown making with Brighter Day Floral Design, games with Clothes Pony Dandelion Toys and a selection of garden and nature books to enjoy. And don’t miss the floral selfie station!

Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 on the day of the event and all ticket sales benefit Whittier Elementary. (Kids 12 and under are free.) The first 500 attendees will receive a swag bag. Tickets, swag bags and maps can be picked up on the morning of the event at 840 Mapleton.

Memorial Weekend Activities for Boulder Families

It’s Memorial Weekend – hurray! Time to kick off the summer. Here’s just a few of the fun happening around town this weekend:

  • Bolder Boulder – Monday – The BolderBOULDER 10k is the biggest Memorial Day celebration on earth. It attracts over 50,000 runners, joggers, walkers and wheelchair racers. It also draws professional athletes from around the world to compete for one of the largest non-marathon prize purses in running. The course winds through the neighborhoods of Boulder, CO with live music and entertainment around every corner. The famous finish and tribute is at the University of Colorado’s Folsom Field with over 100,000 spectators. The BolderBOULDER was named America’s All-Time Best 10K by Runner’s World, is the 4th largest running race in the United States and the 7th largest in the world.
  • 31st Annual Boulder Creek Festival – Saturday through Monday – For over thirty years, the Boulder Creek Festival® has been the unofficial kickoff to summer in Boulder. Widely considered Boulder County’s favorite event, the Festival includes three days of festivities featuring a large variety of events, activities, food and entertainment unique to the Boulder community. The Festival is free to the public and features something for everyone: 9 separate event areas with 500 vendors showcase everything from community arts and crafts to healthier alternatives and technology while 3 performance stages feature a spectrum of music and dance. The festival also features carnival rides and food and beverage vendors.
  • Cult Classics & Cocktails: The Muppet Movie – Thursday – In May and June, be a kid again as you watch favorite cult classic films from days of yore at the Longmont Museum while sipping a specially paired signature cocktail. New this season, we will start each night with movie-themed trivia! Fabulous prizes for the winning team.
  • Carousel of Happiness 8th Birthday Party – Saturday – The Carousel of Happiness is turning 8 and to celebrate we’re giving away mini cupcakes, wearing party hats and playing games. Join us for a fun day of celebration!

Around Boulder – Weekend of May 19-20, 2018

It’s the last weekend before school’s out for the year. Unfortunately it looks like there’s some rain on tap, but there’s also plenty of fun events scheduled around town. Let’s get this summer started!

  • Erie Balloon Festival and Town Fair – Friday, Saturday + Sunday – The Historic Downtown hosts over 200 craft and food vendors; performances on stage at Coal Creek Ball Park offer a variety of entertainment by local groups. carnival games; hot air balloons launch at 6:15 am on Friday May 18, Saturday, May 19 and Sunday, May 20  WEATHER PERMITTING.
  • Museum of Boulder Dedication and Block Party – Saturday 1p – 5p – Block Party in the parking lot: 1-3pm | musical performances, kids activities, historical photo booth, community art projects + more. Building opens: 2:30pm . Check out our exhibits for free: Da Vinci Machines, Sportsology, Discover NASA + the view from our rooftop patio. Free + open to the public.
  • Festival of Faerie – Saturday 8a – 4:30p – A fairy-tale festival that promotes, encourages, and develops storytelling skills by offering a community event that spans both Eastern and Western cultures. The festival provides activities for adults and children of all ages; this is a celebration of art and imagination with an eclectic mix of theatrical performances.
  • 5th Annual Upslope Get Down – Saturday 2p – 10p – Join us for the 5th annual Upslope Get Down Presented by Flatirons Subaru, a FREE music fest with Upslope beer, food trucks, games, art, vendors and more on Saturday, May 19th from 2:00-10:00 pm at our Flatiron Park brewery.

Now hopefully this isn’t news to you, but it’s MOTHER’S DAY THIS WEEKEND! And Mother’s Day is always a busy weekend around Boulder since it’s also CU Graduation. (Congrats grads!) So, make your brunch plans first and then check out some of the other things happening around town:

  • Art Night Out in Old Town Lafayette – Friday 5p – 9p – Art Night Out is a dynamic arts festival in Old Town Lafayette that happens once a month, May through September.  This community event draws families, community members and people from neighboring towns to participate in a dynamic local experience. The nights are filled with great Colorado bands, surprising flash mobs, interesting art demonstrations, fun street performers, award winning local beer and a variety of delicious food trucks.
  • McGuckin’s Tent Sale – Thursday through Sunday – They’ve got it all, and this weekend it’s on sale. Plus, popcorn!
  • Growing Garden’s Spring Plant Sale – Saturday and Sunday 8a – 4p – Since Mother’s Day is the day we unofficially cross into ‘safe to plant stuff!’ territory, it’s also a great time to go pick up some (organic and bee-safe) plants.
  • Mother’s Day Open House at Family Village – Sunday 10a – 1p – Ready to come see what Family Village is all about? Join us for our Mother’s Day Open House on Saturday May 12th! Mimosas, delicious food, chair massages, kid crafts and more!
  • EATS@Gunbarrel – Sunday 3:30p – EATS@Gunbarrel is a new food truck and music festival starting May 13 featuring the area’s hottest food trucks. The award-winning food trucks this week include The French Twist Food Truck, Stone Lotus and the Ginger Pig. The band this week is Harmony and Brad, a husband-wife-duo that plays acoustic rock. Enjoy the time with family and friends and get to know your neighbors.

  • Boulder Civic Area Opening Celebration – Sunday 11a – 2p – Enjoy a free afternoon of  family-friendly activities, lawn games,  exciting local  food trucks and live music from  Caribou Mountain Collective  (Bluegrass/Roots)  and House of Joy (Family/Children) . Bring a picnic blanket and come enjoy the renovated Central Park and the exciting new Creekside Play Area. (It’s already a favorite around my house!)

We’ve got 70’s and sunshine on tap for the weekend, ahhh! Welcome spring with some fun family activities around the Boulder area:

  • Water Cycle Fun – Sunday 2p – 3p – Get hands on and learn about the water cycle at the Main Library. Ages 7+, registration required.
  • Independent Book Store Day – Saturday 1p – 5p – Head down to the Pearl Street Mall and support one of our local booksellers. Games, snacks, giveaways and don’t miss the Harry Potter Trivia at 1:30!
  • Longmont Climbing Collective Grand Opening – Saturday 10a – 11p – There’s a brand new bouldering gym open in Longmont and you can check it out with free admission, food trucks, beer vendors, family friendly activities and prizes all day on Saturday.
